Wild Frontiers Unveils New Small-Group Eclipse Tours to Ecuador & 'The Three Guianas'

Wild Frontiers - the award-winning B Corp adventure travel company - has launched two new small-group Eclipse tours to Ecuador and The Three Guianas: French Guiana, Suriname & Guyana as interest in night-sky travel continues.

Last week, millions of people across Europe gathered in city squares, beaches and rooftops to watch the total solar eclipse – mainland Europe's first in almost three decades. The spectacle captured global attention and sparked a fresh wave of interest in dark sky travel. 

Over the past year, worldwide Google searches for “solar eclipse dates” have soared by 1,950%, while searches for “dark sky locations” have risen by 140% - signalling a wider desire to switch off from screens, slow down and seek restorative, awe-inspiring experiences in nature. The adventure travel expert believes the surge in interest reflects the growing appeal of star bathing and astrotourism.

The launch includes two new itineraries: Darwin's Ecuador: Andes to Galapagos (Eclipse Special), showcasing Ecuador's volcanic Andean landscapes, colonial cities and the wildlife-rich Galapagos Islands, and The Three Guianas: French Guiana, Suriname & Guyana (Eclipse Special), focusing on the region's Amazonian interior, Amerindian and Maroon culture, and Atlantic coastline heritage. Both itineraries are timed around the rare annular solar eclipse of 26 January 2028, when a brilliant 'ring of fire' will encircle the darkened sun across South America.

The new trips complement Wild Frontiers’ existing Eclipse tour offering, and answer growing demand among skywatchers for more remote, off-the-beaten-track locations from which to witness celestial events away from the crowds. 

Darwin's Ecuador: Andes to Galapagos (Eclipse Special)

This 17-day journey travels from the Andes to the Galapagos Islands, taking in Ecuador's volcanic highlands, colonial cities and celebrated wildlife along the way. Highlights include exploring the cloud forest at Bellavista Reserve, driving the 'Avenue of the Volcanoes' past Cotopaxi and the Illinizas, and hiking into the Quilotoa Crater Lake. 

On day 13 of the tour, the group will view the annular solar eclipse from Puerto Villamil beach on Isabela, where maximum annularity is expected to last up to 5 minutes and 35 seconds, before heading out to snorkel at Los Tuneles.

The Three Guianas: French Guiana, Suriname & Guyana (Eclipse Special)

The journey takes you into the heart of the Three Guianas, from the palm-lined shores of the Atlantic to the depths of the Amazon rainforest, taking in colonial architecture, remote eco-lodges and some of the continent's richest wildlife along the way.

On day two, the group travels to the Guyane Natural Regional Park in French Guiana to watch the annular solar eclipse, before continuing to explore the former penal colony of Devil's Island and touring the Guiana Space Centre, Europe's primary spaceport, in Kourou.
