US Low Cost Carrier Southwest Airlines Unveils Plan for Passenger Lounge Network
US low cost carrier Southwest Airlines has announced plans for a series of passenger lounges in select American airports.

The airline – famously a huge inspiration for Michael O’Leary’s development of Ryanair in the 1990s – plans to launch the lounges next year, in partnership with the Chase Sapphire Lounge network.
Currently, Southwest plans to open lounges in Nashville International Airport, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and Daniel K. Inouye (Honolulu) International Airport in Hawaii.
A further seven locations are currently at the planning stage.
Tony Roach, Southwest Airlines' executive vice-president, chief customer and brand officer, said: “Southwest Airlines has built one of the most trusted brands in travel by delivering authentic hospitality that customers value. Our lounges will be a natural extension of that experience, offering Customers a place to relax and experience the Southwest brand in a new way.
“The introduction of a lounge network represents a strategic investment in Rapid Rewards and deepens our 30-year partnership with Chase.”
Passengers will be able to gain access by using a new, premium, Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Card issued by Chase, which will be launching in 2027.
