Trainline Launches in Ireland in First Domestic Market Expansion in a Decade
Trainline has arrived in Ireland. In its first domestic market launch in ten years, Trainline is bringing Irish rail and coach bookings together, making it easier for travellers to compare routes, times, and prices without searching across different operators.

Passengers in Ireland can search and book Irish Rail services alongside journeys from Bus Éireann Expressway, Citylink, JJ Kavanagh, Wexford Bus, Dublin Express and Aircoach, with access to Trainline’s features and no booking fee.
Passengers prioritise convenience
Research Trainline commissioned ahead of the launch shows convenience is key: almost nine in ten (89%) Irish consumers say ease of booking matters when planning travel, while 83% value being able to compare options and 82% want journey information in one place.
The research also highlights common frustrations travellers face: one in five find having to look in different places for travel information frustrating, while 40% say being able to book a rail or coach journey in one place would make planning and booking easier. By bringing Irish rail and coach information and booking together in one place, Trainline can help simplify that process for travellers.
Trainline is already familiar to many in Ireland, with 42% of respondents saying they have used the app while travelling abroad, including nearly one in five who have used it several times.
Hannah Randall, Country Manager at Trainline, said, “We're bringing Ireland's rail and coach journeys together in one app for the first time, so comparing routes, times and fares takes seconds. We may be new to domestic travel in Ireland, but we're not new to those travelling; more than four in ten people we surveyed have already used Trainline abroad. And for visitors who know us from elsewhere in Europe, it's a familiar way to explore more of Ireland”.
Experience meets demand
The launch comes as public transport use in Ireland continues to grow. In 2025, 363.5 million passenger journeys were made across the Transport for Ireland network, up 6% year-on-year, while Irish Rail carried more than 55 million passengers, according to figures released by the National Transport Authority earlier this year.
Trainline brings almost three decades of experience in rail and coach travel to Ireland. It serves 27 million customers, works with more than 270 rail and coach companies, and enables travel booking across more than 40 countries.
For those travelling, that means Trainline can now be used for journeys at home as well as elsewhere in Europe. For international visitors, it offers a familiar way to compare and book rail and coach travel, making it easier to explore beyond Ireland’s main gateway cities.
