Tierra Patagonia Welcomes a New Season of Luxury and Adventure

Tierra Patagonia has reopened for its 2026 season, inviting guests to experience one of Chile's most spectacular wilderness destinations through a collection of immersive adventures.

Set on the edge of Torres del Paine National Park overlooking Lake Sarmiento and the dramatic Paine Massif, the luxury lodge has introduced three new bespoke experiences for the season: kayaking on the Río Grey, fly-fishing and a private helicopter adventure over the region’s extraordinary landscapes. They join the lodge’s established programme of hiking, e-biking and specialist puma excursions.

The new kayaking expedition offers an intimate way to explore Patagonia’s glacial waterways. Guests paddle along the Río Grey with views of native lenga forests, granite peaks and, depending on conditions, pieces of floating ice drifting down from Grey Glacier.

For those who prefer to experience Patagonia from the water with a fishing rod in hand, fly-fishing joins the programme from October 15. Guests will be taken to secluded rivers and lakes where brown trout are present throughout the season, while chinook salmon appear seasonally between December and February. Fishing is catch-and-release.

From October 18th, guests can also take to the skies on the new Rare & Remarkable helicopter experience. The bespoke flight offers an aerial perspective of Torres del Paine and the Southern Patagonian Icefield, with landings in remote locations rarely accessible to visitors. The itinerary depends on the day’s weather and conditions, so every flight offers a different perspective of this vast wilderness.

“Tierra Patagonia has always been about putting guests as close as possible to the raw, untamed beauty of this region,” says Esteban Bagnis, General Manager of Tierra Patagonia. “The addition of kayaking, fly fishing and our new heli adventure gives guests entirely new ways to experience Torres del Paine, guided by people who read this land like a language.”

The lodge’s more established experiences remain an important part of the programme. Guests can embark on full-day hikes to the Base of the Towers and French Valley, explore the Patagonian steppe by e-bike, or head out with specialist guides to search for pumas across the protected lands of Leona Amarga Estancia.

It also reflects how luxury travel itself has changed. A decade ago, luxury holidays were often defined by the suite, the Michelin-starred restaurant, the private transfer and impeccable service. Today, travellers increasingly want something different, recent trade data from the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA), "demand for customized, soft-adventure itineraries is soaring, with travelers seeking out physical skill-building, hyper-immersive local cultures, and eco-conscious escapes".

The new definition of luxury increasingly centres on immersion rather than indulgence. It is waking before sunrise to track a puma, kayaking beside glacial ice or landing by helicopter in a remote corner of Patagonia. The hotel becomes the gateway to the experience rather than the experience itself.

For Tierra Patagonia, that philosophy is deeply connected to its setting.

“Every excursion here is shaped by our guides’ deep knowledge of this land,” says Bagnis. “This season, we’re offering a wider range of ways for guests to connect with Patagonia, but the heart of it stays the same: wild places, shared by people who know them intimately.”

The 40-suite lodge is designed to sit quietly within its surroundings, with sweeping views across Lake Sarmiento and towards the mountains. Inside, you'll find contemporary interiors, local materials and large windows that keep the extraordinary landscape firmly at the centre of it all. Guests can also retreat to Uma Spa, with its indoor pool, sauna, steam room and outdoor hot tub overlooking the wilderness.

For travellers looking beyond traditional luxury, Tierra Patagonia’s latest experiences offer another reason to venture to Chile's far south, where luxury is no longer simply about what you have, but what you experience.
