That’s Entertainment: Royal Caribbean’s ‘Legend of the Seas’ Hits Right Note with Onboard Entertainment Offering

ITTN’s Katie Doyle had the privilege of attending Legend of the Seas’ inaugural sailing with 4,000 trade, press and business representatives from around the world last week. Departing from Malaga, Katie went on a 4-night cruise to Rome joining 120 Irish travel trade and their partners as they had the opportunity to experience firsthand the incredible entertainment and activities onboard the brand new ship!


Legend of the Seas is officially the largest cruise ship in the world and joins as the third Icon Class ship in the Royal Caribbean fleet. Onboard guests can expect to find Category 6: Legend’s record-breaking waterpark, 8 distinct neighbourhoods, a glorious selection of complimentary dining and speciality restaurants with incredible entertainment across the ship.



Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory


Legend of the Seas comes with the highly-anticipated matinee and evening performances of the long awaited show: Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The show takes viewers through a two-hour performance of Charlie Bucket’s quest to enter the coveted chocolate factory, with four other children, their parents and his Grandpa Joe. The performance sticks closely to the film adaptions of the book, utilising the on-stage space to bring the much-loved classic to life. The smell of chocolate is piped through the theatre as viewers watch a full-size mock chocolate river, an intricate four-storied set design for the Bucket’s home and an incredible cast that bursts into feelgood and playful songs, as the characters plays into modernised tropes of spoilt children. The actor playing Willy Wonka is as close to Timothée Chalamet (who played the character in Wonka (2023)) as you’re going to get. The role of Charlie Bucket is shared between two young actors – both under the age of 15 – as they alternate the role: one month on/one month off so that they can combine their fledging acting careers with school attendance. The storyline reflects the film – the first forty-five minutes are taken up by Charlie’s pursuit to get his golden ticket, while the main action hits later in the show. The Oompa Loompa’s dive through the air in aerial performances, the magical elevator flies over the heads of the audience and the soundtrack mixes the songs we know with incredible choreography and animated performances.



Shockwave


In the Aquatheater on the ship’s bow, guests are in for an incredible treat with the performance of Shockwave – an immersive water show that combines aerialist performers, ballet and breakdancers, divers and swimmers – that will have you glued to your seat. You’re warned not to sit too close to the stage with the first three rows in the splash zone, but you won’t get too wet on the comfy lounge chairs just beside the stage. The performance includes a rainfall from which divers literally fall out of the overhead roof into the pool below, a moving underwater platform, dives from huge heights, and incredible synchronisation as the dancers-come-athletic-swimmers hold their breath in artistic swimming segments. The aerialists soar above the crowd, every swimmer hits their mark in perfect formation and every piece is designed around portraying the force and fragility of water. This aquatic masterpiece combines much-loved hits with modern music in an epic display by a multi-talented cast who swim, dive and dance their way through the forty-five-minute performance. It’s a must-see!



Fusion at Absolute Zero


You’d think the aforementioned headline shows are enough to keep all ages entertained, but there’s more to see at the ship’s hull on Legend of the Seas. Behind the Playmaker’s Bar (where you’ll see sports matches and tournaments playing all day) guests can find the almost secretive venue that hosts – incredibly – a full ice-skating rink where the performance of Fusion at Absolute Zero takes place. This forty-five minute production brings an ice-skating cast onto the rink who perform a beautiful tribute to the four elements: earth, air, fire and water. Combining the world-class skater’s aptitude with props that skate across the ice – there are group and solo performances that include lifts, jumps, pirouettes and more! It’s hard to explain in words just how dazzling the performance is – there’s time you want to cry at the beauty and other times when its hard to look at the performers doing incredible lifts and drops as they defy gravity on ice!



America’s Got Talent LIVE


There’s even more to see on Legend with the debut of America’s Got Talent LIVE, as the no.1 show of the summer for 20 years running! Launching in August 2026, it includes magicians, musicians, acrobats, aerialists and more with each show bringing five favourites from the Got Talent universe right to the Royal Theater stage. Christine Coachman, Vice President of Entertainment, Royal Caribbean recently said of the new show: “At Royal Caribbean, we are constantly redefining live entertainment at every turn—bringing jaw-dropping performances to life across stage, air, water, and ice—and America’s Got Talent LIVE on Legend of the Seas is the perfect expression of that vision. As one of the most acclaimed entertainment franchises on television, America’s Got Talent perfectly reflects our commitment to bold, world-class experiences that will truly wow our audiences on Legend.”



Outside of the incredible performance, there is a range of other entertainment options onboard the ship. You can find a piano player in the lift singing classic songs, and themed nights hosted in the Royal Promenade like Jungle Party that includes massive inflatable animals, a DJ and brilliant breakdancers that prance through the crowds. Bolero’s is the Latin-themed bar featuring salsa, cumbia and samba dancing where the guests can dance and swing the night away. At Duelling Pianos – two pianists play up-beat, pop songs and get the crowd involved in singalongs, while at Lou’s you can relax in this open-air lounge for jazz and the blues! At the two-stage Music Hall, guests can enjoy bands and DJs every night with a stage for dancing and boogying well into the early hours!
