Thailand Updates Tourist Visa Requirements: Ireland & UK Visitors Largely Unaffected

Thailand has introduced a series of updated visa measures designed to simplify entry arrangements while strengthening security and making the system easier for international travellers to understand - but visitors from Ireland and the UK remain largely unaffected.

The revised measures come into effect from 15 September 2026.

“For travellers from the UK and Ireland, the changes will have little impact on most holidays, as British and Irish visitors typically travel to Thailand for two to three weeks. They continue to enjoy 30-day visa-exempt travel under the revised measures. Those planning longer stays should check the latest entry requirements with the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate before travelling to ensure they have the most appropriate visa for the duration of their itinerary,” said Worapa Angkhasirisap, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, UK & Ireland.

Visitors who enter Thailand before 15 September 2026 continue to be covered by the current permitted length of stay which is 60 days visa free.

Alongside the visa changes, Thailand is enhancing the visitor experience through digital innovation with the Thailand Immigration Management (THIM) mobile app, which is now available to travellers.

The optional app enables travellers to complete their mandatory Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) registration more quickly by scanning passport details, storing travel information and registering groups of up to 10 people in just a few minutes.

THIM is not an additional arrival requirement and does not replace the TDAC. The app is also designed to support an expanding range of digital immigration services, helping make travel to Thailand more seamless.
