South Lake Tahoe has been named one of Expedia’s 2027 Destinations of the Year, part of the company’s Unpack ‘27 trends report.

The list ranks the fastest-growing destinations for the coming year by traveller search interest. South Lake Tahoe has been put as number one, with searches up 195% year over year.

Expedia built the list from flight and accommodation searches on its platform between September 1, 2025 and July 27, 2026, compared with the same period a year earlier. It highlights places that are gaining traveller attention but haven’t yet reached the mainstream. The ten destinations include Hyogo in Japan, Punta del Este in Uruguay, Sedona in Arizona, Busan in South Korea and Chichester in the UK.

Expedia describes South Lake Tahoe as a year-round destination on the California-Nevada border. In winter, visitors can ski at Heavenly and Sierra-at-Tahoe. In summer, they can kayak or paddleboard on North America’s largest alpine lake.

The recognition comes as the destination continues to strengthen its relationships with international travel trade partners and visitors. The list also gives tour operators, travel advisors and wholesalers a timely reason to feature South Lake Tahoe in 2027 programs, with a story that works in both winter and summer.
