One&Only Moonlight Basin: A New Era of Luxury in Yellowstone Country
This is the first One & Only in the United States, having opened just two years ago after an extensive construction period. The property spans 240 acres and is described as 'ultra-luxury,' featuring 73 rooms and suites, along with 19 cabins and additional private residences.

Opened November 18, 2025, on 240 acres ringed by more than 17,000 acres of permanently protected land. It is the first One&Only resort in the United States, a brand that made its name on beaches in the Maldives, Mexico, and Cape Town, now planting its American flag in an alpine basin an hour from Bozeman and under an hour from Yellowstone’s West Entrance. And the single most striking design decision here is how hard the buildings work at not being seen. It blends effortlessly into its striking surroundings, with low-rise buildings, natural materials, roaring fires and floor-to-ceiling windows framing the landscape.
For Mark Kirby, President of One&Only, bringing the brand to Montana was a long-held ambition. “There’s no place more breathtaking to make our debut than Big Sky, Montana,” he says. “With One & Only Moonlight Basin, we celebrate wild beauty, bold design, authentic connection, and endless adventure.”

That philosophy is evident throughout the resort. Designed by renowned architect Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig, the property comprises 73 rooms and suites, 19 freestanding cabins and a collection of private homes. The architecture is deliberately understated, allowing the landscape to take centre stage.
Inside this interpretation of mountain living, local artwork, warm timber, natural stone, cosy textiles and contemporary furnishings create interiors that feel luxurious without becoming overly polished. Every room and suite includes a fireplace, private balcony and soaking tub, while the standalone cabins offer an even greater sense of privacy.
And then there is the adventure. In winter, guests have direct access to Big Sky’s celebrated skiing, while summer brings hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and fly-fishing. The resort is designed for travellers who want to immerse themselves in nature during the day, then return to exceptional comfort.

Dining is equally central to the experience, with restaurants including Akira Back, Wildwood and The Landing, alongside the atmospheric Dear Josephine bar. Local produce and Montana flavours feature prominently, while the One&Only Spa offers a more restorative way to experience the landscape.

From skiing beneath towering peaks to soaking in a hot tub beneath a vast Montana sky, One&Only Moonlight Basin offers a new interpretation of the American mountain escape.
