Holidaymakers are already looking ahead to 2027, with 92% of respondents planning to take a holiday next year, according to the latest Travel Sentiment Survey from Click&Go Holidays.

The Q3 2026 survey, which received 1,773 responses, reveals a strong appetite for travel, with 62% of those planning a holiday in 2027 intending to book by the end of March. Almost one in four (24%) plan to secure their getaway before the end of 2026, while a further 38% expect to book between January and March 2027.

Sun holidays continue to be the clear favourite among respondents, accounting for 51% of holiday preferences for 2027. Cruise holidays follow at 18%, narrowly ahead of city breaks at 17%, while holidays to the USA account for 5%.

The survey also highlights the importance of holidays to respondents, with 80% of those planning to travel in 2027 typically taking two or more holidays a year. Two-thirds (66%) typically take two to three holidays annually, while 14% take four to five.

Paul Hackett, Director and Co-Founder of Click&Go Holidays, said: “The results show that holidays remain a real priority for our customers, with the vast majority of respondents already planning their next getaway. It's particularly interesting to see how many people are looking to book early, with almost two-thirds intending to have their 2027 holiday secured by the end of March.  Our Advice is always to book early to secure the best price given predictions for possible increases for travel in 2027.

“Sun holidays remain as popular as ever, but we're also seeing strong interest in cruise holidays and city breaks. Irish holidaymakers have plenty of choice, and it's clear that people are keen to make travel a regular part of their year.”

The findings also reveal that many respondents are creatures of habit when it comes to choosing their holiday destination. Of those who booked a holiday in 2026, 55% returned to a destination they had visited before.

Great weather was the most popular reason for returning to a familiar destination (19%), followed closely by value for money (18%) and ease of travel (18%), including flight availability, flight times and convenient departure airports.

Other factors influencing repeat bookings included local attractions such as beaches, sightseeing and activities (14%), accommodation options (12%) and destinations suited to the travelling party (12%).

While demand for holidays remains strong, value for money continues to play an important role in booking decisions. Of those who booked a holiday in 2026, 35% typically spend between €500 and €1,000 per person, while 26% spend between €1,000 and €1,500 per person.

A further 15% typically spend between €1,500 and €2,000 per person, while 14% spend €2,000 or more per person.

Among respondents who did not book a holiday in 2026, higher travel costs, including flights and accommodation, were cited by 22%, while 20% pointed to the increased cost of living in Ireland.

Interestingly, Ireland's good summer weather was also a factor, with 16% citing it as a reason for not booking a holiday, while 12% pointed to hot weather conditions in mainland Europe.
