A group of ten Irish Travel Counsellors are currently exploring the Portuguese region of Alentejo as part of an exclusive educational trip designed to showcase one of Portugal's most authentic and distinctive destinations.

Organised in partnership with Turismo do Alentejo, the programme highlights the region's unique blend of gastronomy, wine, heritage, nature and slow-paced travel experiences, providing participants with first-hand knowledge to inspire future travel from Ireland.

Since arriving in southern Portugal, the group has explored the spectacular coastline of Zambujeira do Mar, walked a section of the renowned Fishermen's Trail, and experienced local hospitality at Herdade do Touril and Craveiral Hotel.

The itinerary has also taken participants deeper into the Alentejo countryside, with visits to Herdade da Malhadinha Nova and Quinta do Paral, where they discovered the region's wine, culinary traditions and rural tourism offer. A visit to the historic hilltop village of Monsaraz, followed by a stargazing experience in one of Europe's leading dark-sky destinations, provided further insight into the region's rich heritage and natural assets.

On Sunday, the group gathered for a networking session with local tourism suppliers before enjoying a memorable cruise on Alqueva Lake, Europe's largest artificial lake, offering a unique perspective of the landscapes that make Alentejo such a distinctive destination.

Before returning to Ireland, participants will also visit the historic city of Beja and experience further examples of the region's hospitality offering, completing a programme designed to showcase the flavours, traditions, culture and authenticity that define Alentejo.

The educational visit aims to strengthen awareness of Alentejo within the Irish market and demonstrate its appeal to travellers seeking meaningful experiences, local connections and a slower pace of discovery.
