Holland America Line has unveiled Bar 1873, "a new signature gathering place where contemporary design, cocktails and live music bring more than 150 years of the cruise line's history to life".

Debuting aboard Oosterdam as part of the ship's Holland America Evolution transformation, the two-storey atrium venue will feature a soaring illuminated tulip sculpture, curated heritage displays and comfortable lounges designed for cocktails, conversation and intimate entertainment.

As part of the Evolution enhancements, Oosterdam also will debut a reimagined Crow's Nest, expanding the ship's live entertainment offerings with new music programming and greater flexibility for activities throughout the day and evening.

Designed to bring Holland America Line's history to life in a contemporary way, Bar 1873 will become a hallmark of the Holland America Evolution program. Different ships will offer their own interpretation of the venue, drawing inspiration from a different story, tradition or milestone from the cruise line's more than 150-year history. On Oosterdam, the venue's theme, May She Be Blessed, honours the maritime tradition of ship christenings and the godmothers who have helped launch generations of Holland America Line ships.

"One of the goals of Holland America Evolution is to celebrate the traditions that have always made us special while introducing fresh experiences for today's guests," said Beth Bodensteiner, president of Holland America Line.

"Bar 1873 is one of the most exciting examples of that vision. On Oosterdam, we've taken an important part of our history and transformed it into a completely new venue. As the concept expands, each bar will draw inspiration from a different part of our heritage, creating a distinct experience aboard every Evolution ship."

Oosterdam's Bar 1873 draws from the 1958 christening of Rotterdam V by Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, reflecting Holland America Line's longstanding connection to the Dutch royal family. Artwork, maritime references and design details throughout the venue will interpret that story, creating a setting that feels contemporary while remaining connected to the people and traditions that have shaped the cruise line. Live piano performances will serve as a centerpiece of the experience during pre-dinner cocktail hours and throughout the evening, complemented by select appearances from vocalists and Holland America Line's Vivace musicians.
