Dublin City Fleadh to Take Over City Centre This Weekend

Dublin City Fleadh takes over Dublin city centre this weekend - on Saturday, August 22 and Sunday, August 23.

With five locations, dozens of performances and activities throughout the day, and free admission for all, this is one of the city's biggest celebrations of Irish traditional music and culture.From 12pm daily, the streets, squares and venues of the city centre will come alive with trad sessions, céilís, live performances, arts and crafts workshops, and family entertainment across Smithfield Square, Meeting House Square, Wolfe Tone Square, Parliament Street and Capel Street.

At Smithfield Square, crowds can enjoy a spectacular line-up featuring traditional favourites Altan, Dervish and Sharon Shannon Big Band on Saturday, with Kíla, Madra Salach and The Scratch bringing their unique energy to the stage on Sunday.

Those looking for a more intimate musical experience can head to Meeting House Square, where some of the most celebrated names in Irish traditional music will come together for special collaborations and performances, including Andy Irvine and Quilty, Máirtín O'Connor, Cathal Hayden, and Seamie O'Dowd, alongside a host of other acclaimed artists.

Over at Wolfe Tone Square, visitors can join open sessions, enjoy piping, harp recitals, and even take to the floor for outdoor céilís, while Capel Street will be buzzing with the unmistakable sound of live trad music as musicians perform throughout the day in a classic Fleadh atmosphere.

Families will find plenty to enjoy on Parliament Street, where arts and crafts, storytelling, music workshops, the Fingal Mummers, and performances from Faró promise entertainment for all ages. Budding musicians can even try their hand at the pipes or experience the magic of the harp through interactive workshops.

Whether you want to dance at a céilí, discover a new favourite musician, join a spontaneous street session, or simply soak up the atmosphere, the Dublin City Council Dublin City Fleadh offers a fantastic free day out in the heart of the capital. Organisers are encouraging people to make a day of it, visit the different venues, and experience the music, culture and community spirit that make the Fleadh so special.
